The collaborative work of Utah-based home economics experts Maurine R. Humphris and Patricia F. Hemming, Celebrate The Seasons: Traditions & Recipes combines entertaining menus and delicious recipes with family friendly activities augmenting successful and memorable get-togethers with family and friends. A veritable compendium of ideas and suggestions for making every holiday gathering a truly memorable event, Celebrate The Seasons is additionally enhanced an Appendix, an Index, as well as a special section on household cleaning tips and hints and a chapter on etiquette called "To Do or Not to Do: A Guide to Gracious Living". Celebrate The Seasons is a very highly recommended addition to personal and community library "Family Living" cookbook and reference collections.

Piscatella's "The Fat-Gram Guide To Restaurant Food" is a great reference book to have in your home. It's amazing (and sad!) how bad for you most of your favorite foods are. The book offered some common-sense, realistic advice. For example, it suggested eating the regular Wendy's hamburger instead of the Junior version. It's only a difference of a few fat grams, but you'll be more full. The book also has a COMPLETE listing of most of the brand-name food served at fast-food restaurants. It really helped me choose "healthier" alternatives to what I'd normally order. For example, a McDonald's EggMcMuffin has only 12 grams of fat compared to over 40 for a Bacon-Egg-Cheese Biscut. I learned all this information in only a sitting with the guide. I know I will definitely keep it handy and refer to it from time to time. And, for under $7, it was well worth it!

My husband and I eat out at least 3 times a week and I found that my weight was going in the wrong direction VERY quickly. This book is a great resource! It is really easy to use. It has helped me lose the extra weight and make better dining decisions. The only downside to this is that the book has not been updated recently.

While this book is very comprehensive in the number of food items convered, it is extremely difficult to use. Rather than organizing the information by TYPE of food (Mexican, Italian, etc), it is organized by ingredient. Thus, to find Chow Mein, you have go to the "Pasta" section!! Nachos are found under the "Cheese" section. By the time you find the menu item you want, the waiter has probably left the table (of course, that alone could be helpful in reducing caloric intake.....)

My wife and I tried the Wild Coho and Pink smoked salmon and found them nearly inedible. Both varieties are extremely dry and have a very unpleasant, inherent flavor (possibly from the preservatives) that overrides even the tastiest of sauces.

I threw away the Pink Salmon without even opening the package.

Authors Debbie Nunley and Karen Jane Elliot have been on a quest to find those who are passionate about both fine dining and historic preservation, and Maryland provided them with the best opportunities to visit restaurants steeped in both fine food and rich history. A Taste Of Maryland History: A Guide To Historic Eateries And Their Recipes thus serves two distinct purposes: as a survey of Maryland historic establishments it provides would-be travelers with a guide to fine historic eating houses across the state, providing an entire page of history to compliment the authors' descriptions of the atmosphere and offerings they experienced today. And as a cookbook, it provides a fine collection of these signature dishes, selecting several from each establishment which have been adapted to home cook proportions. Enjoy Pan-Roasted Scallops with Ginger and Lemon Grass or Buffalo-Style Pizza in a fine gathering. Highly recommended both for Maryland history buffs, cooks, and armchair travelers alike.

I recently got given this book, and I can see myself making most of the recipes in it as the first 3 have all been so successful. Great variety of recipes, good layout and directions, and the added bonus of a list of great Northwest Restaurant to try out when you don't fancy cooking!

I like reading this book, a lot, and developing inspiration for dishes I'd like to prepare. As a resident of the Pacific Northwest, a lot of these dishes and their ingredients are readily available. However, I find that many of these recipes are just too out of reach for your standard American.

If you're someone who has visited many of these inns and restaurants and thought, "A ha! I can finally recreate recipe X!" then this is the book for you. I, however, was just looking for a cookbook that highlights our local cuisine but isn't too complicated. I got one, but not both.

Simple, elegant recipes that make a stunning meal. The herb baked salmon, asparagus linguine, and black mussel linguine were absolutely wonderful. Each dish had clear instructions and only required a few good ingredients.
