Review by H. Fierlinger for Rick Stein’s Seafood Odyssey: Over 150 Superb New Dishes from Around the World

If you haven’t tried Rick Stein’s recepies you are in for a treat. It seems no one has a passion for sea food like him and his recipies are the best. He is totally passionate about good food and simplicity. My favorite receipes of his are in this book where he travels to asia. Lemongrass Palaice I think is the name of the receipe but we just call it “best fish ever” and make it with whatever white fish is freshest. It is incredible. I find that I turn to this book everytime I want a fish recepie and it has never dissapointed. Admittidly, I am not fond of the more traditional brittish receipes he is famous for but there is so much to choose from in this book that you can not be dissapointed. Highly recommended!

This is a fantastic cookbook for seafood lovers especially for those who love exotic flavors from India and thailand. The recipies are easy to follow but the ingredients are pretty gourmet and hard to find if you don’t live in a big city. There is also a really wonderful section on fish illustrations to help you find a suitable replacement fish if you need to. Rick Stein in THE seafood chef and he is incredibly passionate about the best, freshest tastes. You will not be dissapointed in this book. And try to catch his BBC series!!!

Jeanne Jones takes a selection of everyone’s favorite dishes, cuts the extra fat & calories, and they still taste like Grandma used to make. Her recipes call for ingredients that most well stocked pantries will already have or are readily available at your local grocery store. The foods are hits with adults and children alike. If I had known eating healthy was this tasty and easy, I would have started years ago!

Nice cook book. I will use many of the recipes. Since I have to watch my fat and cholesterol intake I have always a keen eye on the food analysis. This cook book provides to each recipe a food analysis which should be read with some suspicion. Three examples: (1) Stuffed Fillet of Sole on page 168: the amount of cholestorol is rather 60 mg than 6 mg. (2) Chicken Cacciatore on page 204: Cholestrol is rather 96 mg than 20 mg and the fat is closer to 7 g than 2 g. (3) Pot Roast with Vegetables on page 248: Cholesterol is rather 142 mg than 68 mg. Use the book but watch the analysis.

Homestyle Cooking Made Healthy is a throughly impressive and “kitchen cook friendly” compilation of two hundred classic American dishes recreated in a low-fat format but still retaining all the original flavor of higher-calory, higher-fat versions of years past. From Carrot-Raisin Salad; Twice-Baked Potatoes; Scampi with Spaghetti; and Chicken Croquettes; to Chicken-Fried Steak with Country Gravy; Crunch Grain Waffles; Lobster and Broccoli Stir-Fry; and Black Bottom Pie, the recipes comprising Homestyle Cooking Made Healthy live up to the promise of lower fat content with no sacrifice to taste. Each recipes comes with a “Homestyle Makeover” side-bar showcasing before and after calorie and fat gram counts. Homestyle Cooking Made Healthy is a welcome and enthusiastically recommended addition to any health conscious kitchen cookbook collection!

I was reciently diagnosed with high cholestrol. I’ve been haunting the library for cookbooks for food I can eat. This book was sitting on the shelf and reached out and grabbed me. Fried chicken and gravey, wow. This works for me, so I just ordered a copy.
