As a true die hard fan of MASH I can honetly say this “takes the cake!” After flipping from beginning to end I actually attempted Hunnicutt’s wife’s cookie recipe.Needless to say they were AWESOME, and my wife and my family enjoyed them until the last morsel. I’m now looking through the book for more wonderful morsels of goodness.Jocularity! Jocularity!

Here’s a book for anyone who was a fan of the M*A*S*H TV series and for anyone who likes to cook and eat! I skimmed through the book as soon as I received it, looking at the cast pictures and behind-the-scenes shots. Then I took a bit more time and read the collection of “Private Igor’s” letters home from Korea, where he was serving (so to speak) with the 4077th. I found hilarious letters and insightful stories about the characters and situations that the television series brought to us so well. These tales worked on both levels — as continuations of the story that the series told, and as little glimpses into the cast that played the members of the 4077th. And then I took a closer look at the recipes themselves and was pleasantly surprised. They come with jokey, cute names such as “Battle of Burgoo” or “Sgt. Bustyergutz Lasagna,” but they are very real recipes. I have tried a couple and found them quite good. The rest (somewhere around 150 of them!) look like they are worth trying. Perhaps by this time you’ve gotten the impression that this is a positive review of the book — you are right. M*A*S*H memorabilia, a funny read, and a collection of good recipes, all in one book. This is going on my Christmas list!

I am very fond of appetizers or small portion of food before the meal. While I was in Spain, I had the opportunity to sample some tapas, that’s why I wonder about this book on asian tapas. So I bought the book and sample some of the recipes. My comment on the recipes is excelent, no wonder some of their (Raku restaurant) customer keep coming even from the other part of the world. BTW, this book is the recipes of the Raku restaurant in Vancouver. And even if the book mention Asian, some of the recipes originated in non asian countries like Berebere from Ethiopia or confit of duck from France.

Luckily as a one time professional cook my imagination can fill in the blanks. For others this could be a reason not to purchase this book. It has lots of exciting & different ideas. It would be great to see what the author & chef came up with from a presentation perspective to compliment these recipes. It’s a wonderful book and I hope the lack of visuals won’t deter the more adventurous out there..

On the cover of this wonderful cookbook of recipes from Trevor Hooper’s Raku Restaurant are the words “A Nibbler’s Delight of Fusion Cooking”. I’m an old fashioned cook so I don’t know about fusion in cooking, I always thought that had something to do with Neutron bombs or unlimited energy for free, but I do know good cooking. And let me tell you, you will not be disappointed in anything this book has to offer.

I’ve done the Yucatan Salmon with Tomatillo Sauce on page 69 and I have to tell you, this is a dish that had my mama drooling, and she is the queen of Mexican cooking. Oh yeah, it’s hard for her to admit that lil old Katie can match her when it comes to serving up a mouth watering dish, but I did it last night and you can impress your mama or mama-in-law or the best man in your life if you get this book and serve up some of the Nibbler’s Delights found inside.
